Still Proud to be an American

I'll be watching fireworks on Saturday night and ooohing and ahhhing with the best of them. And, deep inside I'll be thanking God that the bombs bursting in air are make-believe.

Independence Day reminds me of the people who have made real sacrifices so I can picnic in peace. The celebration also humbles me. It makes me grateful for women like Abigail Adams who endured years of separation so her husband could help frame our nation.

And for women like Crystin Rutherford who married her Prince Charming last year knowing he would soon march off to war to protect that nation.

God bless America and all who serve her so well.

  1. Amen! Every man in my immediate family served this country in the US Army, and I'm very proud of them. Thank God for His grace and mercy, for without it we would surely be destroyed!

  3. Yes, I completely agree about being grateful to all who served this country! My dad was one of those, and he counted it a great privilege to have served in WWII. His mom had four sons in the war at the same time and all of them returned home. What amazing sacrifices are made by those who love the ones who serve this nation!
